Murphy Environmental won the Business-to-Business Award at the Drogheda Chamber Business Awards 2007

The Drogheda Business Excellence Awards 2007 was held in the Boyne Valley Hotel and Country Club. The guest presenter for the evening was RTE's Mr Bryan Dobson. The Chamber's President, Mr. Eugene Kierans took to the stage during the evening and welcomed and entertained the gathered audience.

Following dinner Bryan Dobson announced the four shortlisted companies in the nine categories. The winning companies were then invited to the stage to receive their award from the category sponsor.

This year the winners were presented with a copy of the commissioned painting of "The Drogheda Boat" by artist Mr. Sean O'Dwyer. Holger Schweitzer, Archaeologist in charge of the boat, explained the importance of this great find in the River Boyne at Drogheda. Bryan Dobson asked Holger "Is this find of National importance" Holger's reply was "No that it was of International importance and that the boat is the only one of its kind ever found, this boat must remain in Drogheda."

CUSTOMER EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR MURPHY ENVIRONMENTAL: DROGHEDA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Patricia Rooney, General Manager, Murphy Environmental receiving the award for 'Customer Excellence Service Sector' from Niall Goulding of sponsor IIB Bank

Murphy Environmental took the honours for customer excellence in the service sector at the Drogheda Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. RTE newscaster Brian Dobson presented the awards to the area's best businesses in eight different categories at the event held in the Boyne Valley Hotel on Saturday, 12th November 2005.

Regarding customers as stakeholders in the business and not just the people who pay the bills is what makes Murphy Environmental a winner, according to General Manager, Patricia Rooney. "This award means such a lot. Our team works hard to deliver the best service, not just to the customer, but to the environment as well", said Patricia.

The company deals with over one million tonnes of construction and demolition waste per year, making it the single biggest service provider on the eastern sea board. Licensed by the EPA, Murphy Environmental is involved in the recovery of construction & demolition waste, through a combination of recovery and recycling, to restoration and landfill.

Patricia was particulary taken with the symbolism involved in the 'Spirit of Drogheda' statuette. "It is made form sand recovered from the Boyne Valley. My mother was born on Trinity Street and our company recovers sand, so what better trophy could you give a business such as ours!"

The customer excellence award is aimed at the business-to-business sector for those who see customer service as an integral part of their company and who benefit from repeat business as a result.

Sharon Gilmartin of Anu Therapie presented with Business Excellence Award from Brian Dobson and Seamus Murphy of sponsor Murphy Concrete Manufacturing Ltd.
